Road Freight & Intermodal transport
For many shipments, road transport is the most direct and flexible solution. At Eurodelta, we ensure your goods are efficiently transported from A to B, both within the Netherlands and throughout Europe.
Whether it's FTL, LTL, groupage, or a specific transport solution, we find the right carrier and solution for your shipment. We look beyond just the price. Availability, transit time, reliability, and the specific requirements of your cargo all play a role.
Thanks to our extensive network of established and reliable transport partners, we can adapt flexibly and offer a suitable solution even for more complex transports. From initial planning and collection of your goods to delivery at the destination: we coordinate the transport and keep you informed.
Personal service is key to this approach. You have one dedicated point of contact at Eurodelta, short lines of communication, and a partner who thinks proactively when planning changes or something needs to be resolved en route.
From the first mile to the final destination: we ensure your transport runs smoothly.
Intermodal Transport
Smart combinations for an efficient flow of goods
With intermodal transport, we combine different modes of transport, such as road, rail, and inland shipping, to get goods to their destination efficiently and reliably.
Eurodelta looks beyond just the transport from A to B. For each route, we determine the best combination to match your planning, costs, and logistical requirements. For example, a container can be transported by inland vessel or train to an inland terminal, after which the final leg takes place by road.
Intermodal transport can be an attractive alternative to full road transport. It reduces reliance on road capacity, can offer cost advantages, and in many cases, leads to lower CO₂ emissions.
Eurodelta manages the entire chain: from planning and booking to coordination with terminals, carriers, and final delivery.
This creates a single logistics solution, with various modes of transport and one point of contact.
How we work
In advance, we map out the route, planning, and conditions. After booking, you will receive up-to-date information on the progress. We monitor deviations and contact you when action or a decision is required.
Even in the event of delays, changes, or capacity issues, a dedicated team remains responsible for your shipment.
Frequently Asked Questions about
Road Freight & Intermodal Transport
What is the difference between FTL, LTL, and groupage?
FTL (Full Truck Load) means that a complete lorry is used for a single shipment. This is particularly beneficial for larger volumes or when speed is crucial.
LTL (Less than Truck Load) means that your goods only use a portion of the lorry's space.
With groupage, multiple smaller shipments are combined into one transport. This means you only pay for the space your goods actually occupy.
When is it beneficial?
FTL: Large volumes, direct delivery
LTL: Medium-sized shipments
Groupage: Smaller shipments, cost efficiency
What information do you need to provide a road freight quote?
For an accurate quote, the following details are particularly important:
\ Collection and delivery address
\ Number of pallets/packages
\ Dimensions per package
\ Total weight
\ Type of goods
\ Stackable or non-stackable
\ Desired collection and delivery date
\ Any special requirements, such as ADR, temperature control, or tail lift
With this information, we can determine the most efficient vehicle type and transport solution.
Which lorry is suitable for my shipment?
That depends on the volume, weight, and dimensions of the cargo. Common options include, for example, a tautliner, box truck, mega trailer, refrigerated truck, or vehicle for abnormal loads.
Especially for bulky or non-stackable goods, not only the weight is decisive, but also the available loading metres and loading height. Eurodelta therefore assesses the entire shipment before determining the most suitable transport solution.
What is intermodal transport and how does it work?
In intermodal transport, a shipment is transported using multiple modes of transport, for example, via inland shipping, rail, and road. The goods usually remain in the same container or loading unit. For instance, a container can be transported from the Port of Rotterdam by inland vessel to an inland terminal and from there by lorry to the final destination. This combines the strengths of different transport methods within a single transport chain.
When is intermodal transport more beneficial than full road transport?
Intermodal transport is particularly beneficial when there is a sufficient distance between the origin and the final destination and planning allows for some flexibility. By covering a large part of the journey by train or inland vessel, reliance on road transport can be reduced. Depending on the route, this can offer advantages in terms of costs, available capacity, and CO₂ emissions. Eurodelta compares the possibilities for each shipment and advises on the best solution.
Is intermodal transport always cheaper and more sustainable?
Not automatically. The best choice depends, among other things, on the route, volumes, available connections, terminal costs, and desired transit time. On many routes, intermodal transport can be attractive both financially and in terms of CO₂ emissions, but sometimes direct road transport remains the most efficient solution. Therefore, Eurodelta does not look at one standard solution, but at the entire logistics chain to make the right assessment.
